Are you ready for a nocturnal adventure? The Bahia de Jiquilisco Biosphere Reserve has the privilege of being the world's most important nesting site for the endangered Hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata). Their nests have also been recorded along the Pacific coast stretching from Baja California, Mexico, in the north, to the beaches of Ecuador in the south.
On San Sebastian Island, the Hawksbill, along with 3 other of the world's 7 endangered sea turtle species, wait until dark and then slowly emerge from the black ocean to dig nests on the beach and lay their eggs, primarily during August & September. On this tour, you will also learn about conservation efforts of the Pirraya community.
